NBA 2K23 is the latest installment of one of the most popular sports video games on current and next gen consoles. Take-Two’s developers brought in a cast of new characters and a ton of other features that make the game feel more immersive and engaging than ever before.
Among the biggest changes are the addition of the ability to change the speed of your shot timing meter and more authentic shooting actions and animations. Also, the game revamped its on-ball defense, shot blocking and stealing mechanics to create more authentic strategies. The game’s exhibition mode, which sends players on trips to Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Honolulu, has been enhanced as well. The game also added the ability to play with legendary hip-hop/rap artist J Cole.
What’s not new?
When it comes to new gameplay features, 2k coins doesn’t have many big changes from last year. However, it does have some improvements and additions to existing features that should make the game feel fresh for returning players.
One of those is the new Exhibitions feature, which allows players to take their virtual team on vacation around the world to play in different competitions. The trip to Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Honolulu, and other locations will give players rewards and items they can add to their collection. Another is the redesigned Team Takeover mode, which offers fans an engaging 3v3 online co-op mode. It has been reworked with more types of rewards and an increased reward ladder for every Season.
Lastly, there is the new Michael Jordan Challenge that lets gamers relive 15 moments from the Chicago Bulls legend’s career. However, it would have been great to see The W make its way into the association mode this year.
What’s the release date?
Like clockwork, every September hoop fans and gamers alike prepare to pick up the latest edition of 2K’s top-selling basketball sim. NBA 2K23 is no different, with this year’s iteration promising to spruce things up on and off the court.
This year’s gameplay update includes improved gesture combinations and new skill moves, while the reworked player builds and upgraded ball handling mechanics make for a more hyper-real experience. The game also boasts a redesigned badge system and new pro stick controls with the ability to perform double jump shots.
The 24th installment in the series will feature a host of legendary players, including 'His Airness' Michael Jordan, who will appear on two special covers. Additionally, the reintroduction of The Jordan Challenge allows you to replicate memorable moments from his college, NBA and Team USA careers.
NBA 2K23 will be released on Friday 9 September across Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are available now through retailers such as EB Games, JB Hi-Fi, The Gamesmen and Big W.
What’s the price?
With the game’s release date just a week away, fans are discovering store prices for the different NBA 2K23 editions. It looks like the standard edition with Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi on the cover will be around $60 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles while PC players can expect to pay a little less. It’s also worth noting that you can save a few bucks by going the digital route instead of purchasing the physical disc version. This is especially helpful if you have kids who might misplace or damage your games.
Besides the standard and digital Deluxe versions, you can also pick up the Michael Jordan and Dreamer editions of NBA 2K23. The Jordan edition includes 10 boosts when you first start the game plus an Amethyst topper pack and two weekly 2K Boosts for six weeks. The Dreamer edition, which features J Cole in the MYCAREER mode, is currently sold out at GameStop but you can find it on resale sites.
